Is it too late for orthodontic treatment as an adult?
No. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as they have healthy gum and bone support. Because jaw growth is complete in adults, aligners are not expected to change skeletal differences; however, tooth alignment and many bite problems can be addressed with clear aligners.
For which problems do adults choose clear aligners?
- Shifting after braces: The front teeth becoming crowded again in people who had braces years ago and did not wear a retainer.
- Crowding and gaps: Alignment problems that make cleaning difficult in addition to being an aesthetic concern.
- Deep bite and open bite: Correcting the bite in suitable cases.
- Preparation before a prosthesis or implant: Bringing the teeth into a suitable position for a prosthesis.
How does it fit in with work and social life?
The aligners are thin and clear; they are hard to notice in meetings, presentations and photos. Most people get used to speaking with them within a few days. Because the aligners are taken out for food and drinks, there are few dietary restrictions; however, you need to brush your teeth and put the aligners back in after eating. With a busy work schedule, you should carry a travel kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, aligner case) with you.
What is assessed before starting treatment?
- Gum health: If there is gum inflammation, it is treated first; healthy gums are a prerequisite for tooth movement.
- Fillings, crowns and root canal treatments: The surfaces where attachments will be bonded and teeth with crowns are taken into account in planning.
- Clenching and grinding: If present, the plan is made accordingly.
- iTero digital scan and 3D plan: Movements are planned step by step and shown to you.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment time varies by case. A few months may be enough for minor shifting after braces, while for comprehensive correction of crowding and bite problems it can exceed a year. Aligners are usually changed every 7–14 days, and check-ups are every 6–10 weeks. Retention is essential at the end of treatment to maintain the result.
What determines the cost?
The cost varies with factors such as the number of aligners, the complexity of the case, the system chosen and additional procedures (attachments, interproximal reduction/IPR, additional aligner sets). Exact information is given in writing after the examination and digital planning.
