What determines the cost of clear aligners?
The fee for clear aligner treatment is not fixed like the price of an off-the-shelf product. Each treatment consists of a personalized plan designed around the current position of your teeth and a series of aligners produced according to that plan. For this reason, the fee is shaped by the scope of the plan. The main factors that determine the fee are: the complexity of the case, the number of aligners needed and the package type, the dentist's level of specialization, the digital scanning and planning stage, the use of a retainer after treatment, additional aligner sets, how often check-ups take place and the city where the clinic is located.
On this page we explain each factor one by one. Our aim is not to give you a figure, but to help you read the quote you will be given at your examination correctly. In Türkiye, fee information for healthcare services is provided only after the examination and planning, individually and in writing.
How does case complexity affect the fee?
The most decisive element of the fee is the complexity of the case. How far the teeth need to move, how many teeth will move and the type of these movements (tipping, rotation, vertical movement, correcting the jaw relationship) determine the scope of the plan.
- Mild cases: Minor crowding of the front teeth, small gaps or relapse after retention. These require fewer aligners and a shorter time.
- Moderate cases: Crowding in both jaws, bite problems, and situations that require attachments (small composite bumps that help the aligner grip the teeth) and elastics.
- Complex cases: Lack of space requiring extractions, marked bite problems, creating space before an implant or problems that affect the jaw relationship. These require more aligners, a longer time and more frequent check-ups.
Which group your case falls into becomes clear only after an orthodontic examination, X-rays and a digital scan. Two cases of crowding that look the same may require completely different plans when the bone structure and bite relationship differ.
What do the number of aligners and package type mean?
Invisalign offers treatment in packages according to the number of aligners and the scope of the case. The logic is as follows:
- Lite / Express (light) packages: Contain a limited number of aligners; designed for minor corrections.
- Moderate packages: Contain more aligners and usually a limited number of additional aligner sets (refinements).
- Comprehensive / Unlimited packages: The number of aligners is unlimited or very broad; additional sets are included in the package until treatment is complete.
The package type is reflected directly in the fee. Your dentist recommends a suitable package by estimating the number of aligners your case requires. The point to keep in mind here is that the smallest package is not always the most economical option: if additional aligners are needed during the case, these sets may be charged separately in light packages.
How do place of manufacture and exchange rates affect the fee?
Invisalign aligners are manufactured abroad. For this reason, the cost includes import, customs and shipping expenses and depends on the exchange rate. When you receive a quote, it is a good idea to ask how long it is valid.
The fee is not made up of the aligners alone; digital scanning, planning, check-ups, additional aligner sets and retention also affect the total. Remember: the main factor that determines the treatment result is the dentist who makes and follows the plan. For details of the system, see our Invisalign treatment page.
Why is the dentist's specialization reflected in the fee?
In Türkiye, clear aligner treatment can be provided by dentists; however, orthodontists are dentists who have received additional specialist training in tooth and jaw movements. In treatment with a specialist, experience in planning, attachment design, use of elastics and handling possible problems differs. This experience may appear as a difference in fees, especially in moderate and complex cases.
At some clinics, the fee also includes the total appointment time the dentist sets aside over the course of treatment. Be sure to ask at the quote stage whether check-up appointments are included in the package.
Are digital scanning and planning included in the fee?
Clear aligner treatment is planned on a three-dimensional digital model of your teeth. This model is obtained with an intraoral scanner (devices such as iTero, Trios or Medit) or by taking a conventional impression and scanning it in a laboratory. The dentist then designs the movement of each tooth step by step in the planning software and presents you with a simulation showing the position your teeth will reach at the end of treatment.
Some clinics include scanning and planning in the treatment fee; others charge a separate planning fee and deduct it from the total fee if you start treatment. This detail should be stated clearly in the quote.
Is the retainer included in the fee?
When clear aligner treatment ends, the teeth continue to tend to return to their former positions. For this reason, a retention appliance (retainer) is used after treatment: either a thin wire bonded behind the teeth (fixed retainer) or a clear retainer worn at night. The retention stage is an essential part of treatment and is often continued for life, at least at night.
Whether retainers are included in the treatment package, how many sets are provided and the conditions for replacement affect the fee. For details, see our retainer after clear aligners page.
When are additional aligner sets (refinements) needed?
The teeth do not always match the simulation in the planning software exactly. As treatment nears its end, a new scan is taken for small corrections and an additional aligner set is produced. This is called a refinement. In comprehensive packages, additional sets are usually included; in light and moderate packages they may be limited in number or charged separately. Ask for the refinement terms in writing in the quote.
Check-up frequency and differences between cities
Check-up appointments usually take place every 6–10 weeks; in complex cases they may be more frequent. Some systems offer remote monitoring apps and can reduce clinic visits. The number and length of check-ups are reflected in the clinic's operating costs and therefore in the fee.
Rent, staff and equipment costs differ between large cities and smaller ones. This difference may also be reflected in fees. However, when choosing a city, also take into account ease of travel and being able to attend regular check-ups; treatment lasts 6–24 months and requires regular follow-up.
Why is no clear aligner price list published?
In Türkiye, the promotional and informational activities of healthcare institutions are regulated by law. To prevent patients from being steered by commercial concerns, these regulations restrict price announcements and commercial-style promotional announcements for healthcare services. For this reason, clinics that comply with the regulations do not share fee figures on their websites; it is wise to be cautious about social media accounts that advertise figures.
The logic behind this rule is that a healthcare service is not a standard product. Two treatments with the same name may require completely different content and effort in two different patients. A comparison based on figures may lead you to overlook the scope and quality of the treatment. The regulations aim for patients to make their decision not on the basis of price announcements, but after an examination and a consultation with the dentist.
Fee information is provided individually and in writing after the examination and planning. This approach is also in your interest: a figure given without seeing your case is either unrealistic or changes during treatment with additional charges.
What is the TDB minimum fee schedule?
The Turkish Dental Association (TDB) sets a minimum fee schedule for dental services every year. From the standpoint of professional ethics, this schedule aims to ensure that services are not charged below a certain level, and it also covers orthodontic treatments. The schedule serves as a floor; the fees clinics charge are shaped above this floor according to the scope of the case, the system used and the dentist's experience. Knowing that the schedule exists provides a useful reference when evaluating the quote you are offered.
How do payment plans work?
Because clear aligner treatment is a process spread over months, most clinics offer a payment plan. Common arrangements include:
- An initial payment at the start of treatment, with the remaining amount spread across check-up appointments.
- Credit card payment options (these vary by bank and card type).
- A payment schedule tied to treatment stages (planning, aligner delivery, retention).
Ask in writing whether the payment plan changes the total fee, whether the fees for additional sets and retention are included in the plan, and what happens if treatment is discontinued partway through.
What changed in clear aligner fees in 2026?
In recent years, a few general trends affecting clear aligner fees have stood out:
- Exchange rates: Because the cost of imported systems depends on the exchange rate, fees are updated along with currency movements. Ask how long the quote is valid when you receive it.
- Wider use of digital scanners: Because intraoral scanners are now found in more clinics, additional costs associated with conventional impressions have decreased.
- Remote monitoring: Monitoring through mobile apps has reduced the number of clinic visits in some cases.
These trends do not affect fees in only one direction; the exchange rate may push them up, while digitalization may have a balancing effect.
| Factor | Effect on cost | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Case complexity | Increases (as complexity grows) | Requires more tooth movement, more aligners and more check-ups |
| Number of aligners / package type | Increases (as scope grows) | Mild, moderate and comprehensive packages include different aligner limits |
| Place of manufacture and exchange rate | Variable | Because the aligners are manufactured abroad, the cost depends on the exchange rate |
| Doctor's specialization | Increases | Orthodontic specialization and experience with the system may be reflected in the cost |
| Digital scanning and planning | Varies by package | Included at some clinics, charged as a separate planning fee at others |
| Retention (retainer) | Varies by package | Ask whether it is included and how many sets |
| Additional aligner sets (refinement) | Varies by package | Usually included in comprehensive packages, may be separate in mild packages |
| Check-up frequency | Increases (as visits become more frequent) | Complex cases require more frequent appointments |
| City | Variable | Operating costs may be higher in large cities |
This table is for guidance only; the exact cost is provided in writing after examination and planning.
